This work package was led by University of Birmingham and participated by Bioversity International, Maa-ja Elintarviketalouden Tutkimuskeskus (MTT) from Finland, University of Perugia from Italy and University Rey Juan Carlos (URJC) from Spain.
WP3 was subdivided into four tasks involving the development of the European and national crop wild relative (CWR) inventories and the generation of strategies for proper conservation of these genetic resources. For more information, please visit the official website of the project: http://www.pgrsecure.bham.ac.uk
Spain was one of the countries selected as case studies for the development of exemplar strategies for the CWR together with Finland and Italy. In this sense, the URJC team was in charge of the generation of a National Inventory of CWR for Spain and the proposal of measures for its protection.
The information you can find in this website is structured in two main categories:– a) the generation of the National Inventory of Crop Wild Relatives and b) the in situ assessment of its conservation status through gap analysis.
When accessing the information about the generation of the Spanish National Inventory of CWR, the information is again structured in two categories: Crop and CWR information. You will find information about the selection of important crops for Spain, reasons for prioritizing them and databases where you can consult the total crop genera list with the associated information or the prioritized crop genera list. The CWR information is related to the prioritization of the Spanish Checklist of CWR and the generation of the Spanish National Inventory. You will find criteria for prioritization as well as the databases for the Spanish CWR Checklists for food and forage categories.
We hope this information will be of interest for conservationists as well as a useful tool contributing to the improvement of food security worldwide.
