Taking into account the availability of data for the species corresponding to the selected genera, information was compiled on a set of fields in a way similar to the one performed for the prioritization of crops. For each of the CWR species relevant information concerning distribution range, threat status, genepool and taxon group information, number of chromosomes, among others, was collated.

Crop Wild Relatives in Spain – Spanish Checklist of CWR
Trifolium repens. Marcos Méndez
Crop Wild Relative list generation
Once the genera containing the most important crops were prioritized, all species belonging to these genera and naturally occurring in Spain were identified. The Spanish national flora of reference (Flora Iberica - Castroviejo (coord. gen), 1986 - 2012) when available (still incomplete) and the Anthos Project database (www.anthos.es) were the sources for the determination of all the species of each genus present in Spain. Also the list of wild animal and plant species of the Canary Islands (Acebes Ginovés et al., 2010) was consulted to include the wild species of the Canary Islands as Flora Iberica only includes species of the Iberian Peninsula and the Balearic Islands.
Total number of species, after eliminating those naturalized or introduced, was 929 (Food related species: 223; Fodder & Forage related species: 260; Ornamental related species: 240; Industrial and other uses related species: 206). This list comprises the species included in the Spanish Checklist of CWR.
